Terms of Service

Last updated: August 22, 2026
No legal entity registered. The operator of this tool has not yet registered a legal entity, appointed a registered address, or designated a governing jurisdiction for these terms. These terms are provided as a statement of intended operating principles. They do not constitute a legally binding agreement until the operator supplies their legal entity name, address, and governing jurisdiction.

Service description

Charsetlint is a diagnostic tool that inspects the character encoding declarations of a URL you submit. It fetches the URL, reads the HTTP Content-Type header, byte-order mark (BOM), and <meta charset> tag, then reports the declarations and any contradictions between them.

The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. No uptime guarantee or service level agreement is offered.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

No accounts, no stored data

This service does not maintain user accounts, store submitted URLs, or retain diagnostic results. Each request is processed ephemerally. No data is persisted server-side.

Intellectual property

The Charsetlint name, visual identity (the three-bar mark), and website content are the property of the operator. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works of the service or its branding without permission.

Billing

Charsetlint is offered as a free service for single-URL diagnosis. A paid Pro plan is available at $9 per month (the "Subscription Fee") and provides API access, batch scanning, and higher rate limits. Free plan users are not charged.

No payment processor is currently connected. Subscriptions cannot be purchased at this time. When a payment provider is wired to the service, this section will be updated with payment terms and the Pro plan will become purchasable. Until then, the checkout form on the pricing page is a demonstration only.

When payment processing is enabled, the following terms will apply:

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The diagnostic results provided by Charsetlint reflect what the service observed at the time of the request. Encoding declarations may differ between requests, and the service may not detect all encoding issues. The operator makes no warranty, express or implied, about the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any diagnosis.

In no event shall the operator be liable for any damages arising from the use or inability to use this service, including but not limited to direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

Modification and termination

The operator reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time without notice. These terms may be updated at any time; continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

Governing law

No governing jurisdiction has been designated. The operator must supply a governing law and jurisdiction before these terms can be enforced. Until then, these terms serve as a statement of intended practice.

Contact

No contact address is available at this time. The operator has not registered a legal entity or established a means of contact. When the operator registers an entity and provides a contact method, this section will be updated.
